Senator Pimentel’s Eight “Art for Change” Contest

The annual “Art for Change” contest, sponsored by the Office of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr., will be held on November 15 at the Activity Area of Robinsons Place Galleria at EDSA cor Ortigas Ave, Quezon City.

Art for Change seeks to inspire and encourage budding and promising artists to develop and sharpen their talents for painting.

Through the on-the-spot painting contest, participants can translate on canvass their sentiments and interpretation of the current political ferment and other issues that shape the lives and future of the Filipino youth.

The contest is expected to attract as many as 200 young participants from all over Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

Sen. Pimentel is inviting parents and their artistically-inclined children to sign up for the Art for Change competition which is now on its eighth year. “We have had tremendous response in the past seven years with many talented youths coming to participate in this art event,” Pimentel said.

Pre-registration starts November 3 and ends November 14, 2008 at Room 601, 6/F, Office of Senator Pimentel, GSIS Bldg, Roxas Blvd, Pasay City. Registration proper will take place at the contest venue on November 15 at 10:00am. Attractive prizes are in store for the winners.

Pimentel’s Art for Change was originally dubbed as Art for Peace when it was first conceptualized in December 2001. A year later, it was renamed as Art for Change with the environment as its theme. Each year, Art for Change adopts a different theme, usually on issues affecting the quality of life of the youth. In 2003, it had clean and honest elections as its subject. In 2004, it focused on unity in diversity, while in 2005, it had rights of children as its theme. In 2006, it was children: pillar of faith and in 2007, it was fighting poverty.

Major sponsors for the 2008 Art for Change are Robinsons Place Galleria, National Bookstore and De La Rosa Transit, Inc. Other contributors are Cacho Hermanos, Inc., Rebisco, San Miguel Corporation, Universal Robina Corporation, Growers Nuts, Chips Delight, Fibisco, Nestle Ice Cream, Orion Choco Pie and Haribo, the Pan Pacific Manila, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, the Peninsula Manila, Shepherd’s Voice Publications, Inc and Quiapo Printing, Inc.
