SENATOR PIMENTEL’S 4th ART FOR CHANGE EXHIBIT
The Office of Senator “Nene” Pimentel Jr. announces the
fourth Art for Change Exhibit.
Art For Change, a brainchild of Senator Nene Pimentel, Jr.,
seeks to promote and encourage young and unknown artists, by
holding an annual on-the-spot art contest and art exhibit at
the same time.
The annual Art For Change contest accepts 200 young
participants, ages seven (7) to 12, from all over Metro
Manila, Bulacan and Cavite.
On November 17, 2007, the Art for Change on its seventh
year, was held at the Robinsons Place Pioneer, EDSA cor
Pioneer St, Mandaluyong City.
The three major winners in this year’s contest are: first
place winner, Lord Daryll P Decena, from P Guevarra
Elementary School, (10 yrs old), second place winner, Jamia
Mei Tolentino , from St Stephen High School, (9 yrs old),
and third place winner, Trisha Co Reyes, also from St
Stephen High School, (9 yrs old).
Meanwhile, Senator Pimentel will launch his fourth Art for
Change Exhibit and Art Sale called “A Celebration of Art” on
December 3-6, 2007, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the second
floor hallway, Senate of the Philippines.
The Art For Change exhibit is a way to bring out the work of
the artists into the community’s consciousness.
This art exhibit and art sale will showcase the artworks of
our selected finalists and contestants in 2003 and 2004.
Art for Change which was conceptualized by Senator Pimentel,
was designed to harness the artistic talents of the youth
through an on-the-spot art contest.
Nene Pimentel’s Art For Change was originally dubbed as Art
for Peace when it was established in December 2001. A year
later, it was renamed to Art for Change with the environment
as its theme. Each year, Art for Change carries a different
theme usually on issues affecting the quality of life of the
youth. In 2003, it had clean and honest elections as its
theme while in 2004, it focused on unity in diversity. Art
for Change chose rights of children as its theme in 2005
while last year, it had children: pillar of faith as its
theme.
Senator Pimentel believes that in the art exhibits, the
young artists are given the opportunity to exercise their
liberty of expression.
Likewise, they are given the necessary exposure to the
public which is an essential factor for their search to gain
recognition and popularity.
